Memories before the Zonda, IP and FX-es hit the market under the Megabass tag, one can only relate performance tuned Reels with the likes of i'Ze factory or RCS for Daiwa Reels. Founder and CEO of Megabass Yuki Ito also played the role to tune some of the memorable reels for Daiwa. One of Tigris' customer's Alphas ito ai was sent in - for parts initially, until we found a way to resurrect it.

Major Craft Finetail and Major Craft Nextino

From the successful trout rod Troutino, spawns the next trout rod simply naming it Majorcraft Nextino. Updates include K guides, thinner blank, wooden handle. Tigris was lucky to have NTA-662SUL in stock. Supposedly a "POND AREA Casting Point Strategy" rod, this rod was sampled using 1g OGK trout spoon and also 2G Smith PURE trout spoon in this "Shootout"

The Finetail. Will it be a replacement of the Nextino? or the Troutino? The concept is not very clear but what we know of is that Troutino reached it's end of life cycle and being replaced by Nextino. what makes the difference between the Finetail and the Nextino then?

The dark Green blank of the FTS-562UL mountain stream model of the Finetail is a slightly stiffer rod. Compared to the AREA rod earlier mentioned (the Nextino), stream trout rods are slightly shorter and stiffer compared to Area rod mainly for the casting control for accuracy pinpointing while wading a river. The Finetail Stream versions come with a wooden handle with buckeye look further enhancing the looks of the ultralight rod.

Casting:

2 different leagues. The Area Nextino requires a little bit of pendulum movement before launching the lure using the rod's arc. Finetail does not. It shoots straight out like a medium saltwater flyrod.

Handling fish:

Again this was tested with different fishes. The Finetail got to enjoy some Barramundis up to 7kg. Setting hook was not easy on these fishes given the thick mouth. However if the lure is stuck nicely it just have the sufficient power to control these oversized match of the rod, never a chance to overpower the fish.

The Nextino on the other hand enjoyed one 6" Peacock Bass taking a 2G Smith Pure spoon. Since the spoon was taken straightaway there's not much of a hooksetting required but the whippy nature of the rod makes the fight just as what we locals desire about - reel screaming and rod bending. Definitely need more fishes to benchmark but I do think you get the idea pretty much right.

Fishing Weekend at Batang Berjuntai

Most anglers would love to land some fishes and hope to get a big one that put up a good fight on the rod. As for me fishing is also spending some good time with some friends on a boat, hunting good spots and more importantly, ENJOY the nature. The wonders of god's creation. 

We were expecting to land more fishes on this trip but I only manage to land 2 juvi Toman. We constantly on the trail chasing boiling fries all day but mama toman decided not to bite. ending the day with this beautiful dusk landscape. Overall, it was a wonderful trip, plenty of misses and exciting waves chasing after our lures.

Heading back to land to haul up our boats.

04 - 07 We saw the first Gekkabijin. Alongside with a slew of other reels launched to specific purposes such as the Emeraldas and also the Presso. The petite bodied Gekkabijin was so compact and great it went on to the next generation Zaion bodied '09 Gekkabijin Infeet. With a whole suite of rods, lures, lines, accesories for UltraLight Rockfishing, the higher priced reel was introduced with a new little brother - the MX 2004.

Another batch of reels from Japan arrived yesterday! Woot,... it is open season in Japan with Autumn coming, stock availability will be rather slow due to the high demand in Japan & Korea, but Tigris still manage to get our hands on this. Ito Engineering version of Daiwa T3... the FX68L. Pure engineering ingenuity on the T-Wing system to lay the lines and the flaps helps with the low line profiling to reduce bird nest. MagForce 3D is another quick click on the bottom to set the distance and targeted areas.

Daiwa Alphas Finesse Custom 105HL

New generation Alphas by Daiwa up for sale, most reviews has good appraisal for this reel mainly due to the shallow spool application. It does cast better with lighter weight lures compare to the deep normal application spool on the infamous dual Purple Alphas 103. Japanese engineers at Daiwa raise the ante on the gears to 6.8 on this sweet reel making it more suitable for finesse luring. Time to buy  some small jigs and micro lures to cast with this new gen Alphas.

Zoom - More Field Testing

When all else fails, soft plastic is king.

This is the one of many asian red-tail that I manage to land using the Zoom Finesse Worms. Since the profile of the worm is longer than the usual Berkley grubs, most of the hook-set is on the barbell of the fish.

Just one of those days where the hook up rate was crazy on Zoom, managed to attract some other curious anglers over to find out our secret & deadly lure at Exotic.

We organised a small group gathering & fishing trip at Jurassic Game fishing pond on 2013 New Years day, and here is our proof that our product works. Yeah, some may say fishes at Jurassic takes on anything which is quite true & we totally agree (we tried home made rubber band lures). Haruan are garbage eaters that takes on anything, but Tomans has a selective taste buds, I aint saying that we are Pro anglers, but its more on how you work and present the lures to the fishes for them to bite.
